Evidence for The Location of The Temple in Jerusalem

Its location will one day have a very profound effect on the entire world.

The Evidence Pages

All the evidence points to where it actually was, and not where it wasn't.

"for the Jews, by demolishing the tower of Antonia, had made their temple four-square," (Wars book 6, ch.5, para.4)

Introduction

Some Christian groups have been convinced that the first and second temples of Jerusalem were not on the temple mount, but were in the city of David, and that the temple mount was a Roman fortified city.

The Bible; the books of the historian Josephus; the itinerary of the Bordeaux Pilgrim; the Palestine Exploration Fund, as well as known history, and archaeology when taken as a whole contradict that belief.

This is a desktop study. No need to buy an air ticket as all the evidence required already exists if you have a computer and an Internet connection.

Jerusalem locations

You don't need anybody else's opinion. God made you in His own image - to be able to think - and if you use that ability you can "Prove all things; [and] hold fast that which is good." (1-Thessalonians 5:21)

Although the original fort Antonia in Jerusalem was built on the orders of a Jewish priest at least 40 years before the Roman period which began 63BC, they still believe it was built by the Romans.

Although it was known that Jews were allowed to visit the site of their temple for one day every year from the time of the Bar Kokhba revolt in AD132, they deny it and believe not one single Jew was allowed anywhere in the vicinity of Aelia Capitolina (the Roman colony founded by Hadrian, centered around Jerusalem) for a thousand years!

The Bible, when it speaks about the temple, says up and out from the city of David, not once but twice.

Is that not part of the "every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" preached every Sabbath?

There is at least one book; a publicly available YouTube video; a DVD you'd have to buy, and websites that argue the toss with God's word. One or more rephrase the words of Jesus.

The apostle John was mindful about followers rearranging the LORD's words when he wrote Revelation 22:18-19. Perhaps those who do so might have forgotten that warning?

Because of the world-wide coronavirus lockdown, Jerusalem tour guides had nobody to show around, so started to use their mobile phones as video cameras, and take YouTube viewers on the tours instead.

As a result we have far more history available to us without having to travel. We can "travel to Jerusalem and explore the archaeology" on our own desktop without leaving home.

Why Such A Fuss?

I've heard people say that if the Jews started to build their temple on the rock under the dome, it would start world war three.

Looks like that's what Jesus meant by "great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." (Mt.25:21)

But the scriptures (2 Th 2; Dan 9:27) foretell that the start of the trouble happens three and a half years after it's built.

For that to happen there would have to be peace between the Jewish and Muslim faiths. That seems unimaginable right now, but over in Abu Dhabi, the UAE have built the Abrahamic Family House - a multi-faith complex with a mosque, a synagogue and a catholic church.

Some Arab countries have entered into "the Abraham Accords," a peace treaty with the Jewish state of Israel. Others are the entire opposite. As I'm only a messenger here, I'm not going to delve deeper into the politics. Somehow there will be peace and that will allow the temple to be built.

However, from the Bible's perspective, there are warnings to the people of God, so they know what to watch for: "Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is." "And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." (Mark 13:33,37)

Daniel says "And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown:" (Daniel 11:40-41a)

Yes, it will be like WWIII.

The Bible gives the clue that a religious leader will provoke the king of the south...

"Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." (II Thessalonians 2:4)

...to push at the king of the north.

I could go into much greater detail from the scriptures but I am aware of UK laws and the sensitivity of different faiths. So, I'll simply conclude this section with these words - would a temple built anywhere else have such a profound effect?
